Description:

"This selection from the earliest verse in English contains poems from an age in which verse was composed and recited aloud, and remembered rather than written down." "Michael Alexander's beautiful translations preserve the verse forms of the original Old English. His new introduction to this revised edition traces the path of Anglo-Saxon literature and discusses the language and themes of each poem. This edition also includes notes, appendices, a glossary and further reading."--Jacket.
