Eyal is an army conscript who goes AWOL, causing his parents great anguish. Shwartz is an old Ashkenazi hell-bent on keeping his neighborhood free of Sephardic newcomers. And an unnamed elderly stroke survivor in the care of a Filipino maid and her violent lover observes life from the silent cocoon of his wheelchair. All these characters have in common seems to be the nondescript Tel Aviv apartment complex around which their lives revolve. But in truth their fates are entangled in ways even they cannot imagine. Kenaz takes the reader on a tour of life in Israel today, bringing his own brand of distilled reality, not to mention his ever-present black humor, to scenes that culminate in murder and revelation."--BOOK JACKET.
